Flight time

Oxford to Madrid

A midsize private jet takes about 2 hr to fly from London Oxford Airport (EGTK) to Madrid Barajas (LEMD). It is 687 nautical miles, which is 791 miles or 1,273 km. A turboprop is nearer 3 hr, and a large jet can do it in about 1 hr 50 min.

These are still-air estimates with a little added for climb, descent and routing, rounded to five minutes. The real figure moves with the wind, air traffic control and the aircraft. Check that your aircraft can fly the sector non-stop.

What changes the time

Wind is the big one. Flying west is usually slower than flying east, and a strong headwind can add a quarter of an hour or more on a longer trip. The route air traffic control gives you, the runway in use and how busy the airspace is will move it a little too. Clocks in Madrid are an hour ahead of the UK, so allow for that when you plan arrival times.

The return takes about the same, give or take the wind.

Either end

You would leave from London Oxford Airport, where it is worth checking the opening hours, handling and whether you need permission first. At Madrid Barajas the same goes: hours, slots and permissions are all on its page.
